Migrate to ESXI

I'm using version 9.3 on a delegated Dual Core 2 computer and was wondering if it was possible to migrate this to a VM using ESXI. Is this possible? If it is what is the best way to do this?

Hello reaz,

yes, this is possible with following a few steps:

1. Take a full backup of your running UTM including the certificates, IP address etc.
2. Install a fresh UTM as VM with the newest ISO file of 9.3 on ESXi using vmxnet3 as network interfaces and new temporary ip adresses.
3. When connecting to this new UTM for the first time with your browser you will be asked if you want to restore from an existing backup. Here you can import your backup you took in step 1.

That's all.

Hello,

it is possible to be even a bit faster:
While installing from the ISO file, make sure you present an unencrypted backup file (.abf) via connected USB drive and it will automatically import it.
So after first reboot you already have your system up and running.
Maybe you have to find out the new order of your NICs.

I always use eth0 as internal/management interface (that is the default on setups unless you change it). I have done the fresh ISO setups on vmware restoring with backup during setup and the procedure always works. [:)]

I've got mine running on a 2012 Mac Mini rolling on ESXi 5.5, works a treat and is pretty easy to get running..
