UTM Smart Installer AutoUpdater Error

We purchased the Sophos UTM Smart Installer USB stick so that we can re-install the OS on our hardware UTM product.  

I started the SUSI.exe program that's on the stick to download the latest version and when it first starts up, it tries to Auto Update.  However, this process fails with the following error "Current version is 1.1.5. Checking for update... Fail!  Bad response! Could not retrieve version.".

I've tried taking this stick home and trying it there to see if something was being blocked on our network, but it doesn't work there either.  The program will open if I click on OK and I can download the latest version of the OS.  I would just like it more if I didn't get this error right away, out-of-the-box.

Any ideas?

    The auto-update process no longer works.  The URL/directory hard coded for it to look for updates at no longer exists.  It's annoying, but doesn't hurt anything, and there isn't a way for you to fix this.  The most recent version is 1.4.0, which can be downloaded at ftp://ftp.astaro.de/SUSI

    Thanks!  That's a little worrying though that even the latest version still has this error.  Seems they would have removed that by now if that's not a feature anymore.

    Also, now I have a new question, with this version it also has the option to attach a license file.  But when I look on our UTM, there is no option to extract/download a license file.  Would attaching the backup file be enough?

    Just just purchased one of these overpriced but handy USB keys.

    Here is what I had to do:

    Download new SUSI.exe at:
    Index of /SUSI/

    Just copy to your rev. 3 Smart Installer and over write existing file.

    Then get latest ISO from:
    https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/utm-downloads.aspx

    They had to make this stick not work to fetch the ISO due to export compliance but just get the ISO via above method. Boo!

    One you have an .ISO, just navigate to where it was downloaded from by clicking the folder icon to the right of "ISO Download Folder" and select the folder where the ISO has been stored and click on "OK"

    You may also need to click the "Browse for ISOs" button.

    Once you see the ISO under "Available ISOs" just select it (add backup file and license file if desired), then hit "Burn ISO" to load the software onto the SUSI stick.

    Once the above is finished, follow the below directions from:

    Installing Sophos UTM

        Step 1: Make sure the target system or the Sophos UTM appliance is powered off.
        Step 2: Plug the Smart Installer into a free USB port of the target system.
        Step 3: Power on the target system.
        Step 4: Wait for the installation to finish. If you use the Smart Installer to install the Sophos UTM software onto a target system that is no Sophos UTM appliance, you need to connect monitor and keyboard to follow the on-screen installation steps. Complete the installation steps accordingly. Installations on official Sophos UTM appliances can run unattended, but it is still recommended to connect a monitor to see when the installation has completed.

    Important note: This operation will completely erase your data and configuration (rules, logs, policies, etc.). If you wish to restore your previous configuration, please have a suitable backup file ready to restore after the installation.


    That is it, and while it will only get you to 9.314, it sure beats the up2date getting stuck going from 9.213 to 9.304 and needing to fix it from the shell. Plus not having to run all those other updates. Now you will only need to run up2date on a couple versions.

    Now then, can anyone tell me how long it is supposed to take to run the installer once the UTM is powered on?

    Been sitting here 30 minutes and the UTM I'm trying to update has not make a sound. Just a power light. Nothing flashing.

    The directions said no need to connect monitor and keyboard to a hardware UTM but now I'm starting to wonder.

    Anyone?
