How to install on a dedicated server?

Hello folks,

I am brand new to Sophos. I would like to install Sophos for purely vpn purposes on a dedicated server. I have KVM access to my machine.

After installation, how can I access the web configuration from the wan side. After normal installation, I get a command prompt giving me instructions on how to log in via the lan side.

Can I configure the web config on the wan side by using command prompt or do I really need to access it via lan. I don't have access to the LAN side as this is a dedicated machine with wholesaleinternet.com

    For all configuration from the first install, the only interface enabled for configuration is the "LAN" port that you supplied during install.
    To access webmin https:// ***x:4444

    Don't forget to set consol root password from your KVM.

    Hi Mark,

    The recommended way to set the shell/console passwords is via the Shell /SSH access settings in WebAdmin, otherwise the passwords won't get backed up.

    Hi Barry
    I remember having SSH passwords set on a headless ASG (a number of years ago) and I connected a monitor to it and found that I could not log in to the console no matter what passwords where entered into the Webmin screens. I believe that the ASG may also have have had a restore done on it at some stage.
    So now as a policy on first build I make sure that I enter a console password and I haven't had a problem since.

    Whether this has been fixed since I don't know. Old habits take a while to get out of when you have been burnt bad.

    Hi,
    I had problems in the past also, but it seems to work fine in recent versions as long as you set them from webadmin and backup.
