DHCP Relay problem

I recently got my own hardware and  built a dedicated machine for Sophos UTM Home Edition and installed UTM 9.205-12 but now I can't seem to get the DHCP relay settings correct to add it to my network.

Current configuration: Cable Modem -> Router -> Switch -> Devices / Access Points

Attempted configuration: Cable Modem -> Router -> Sophos -> Switch -> Devices/Access Points

When I connect in this fashion (router -> sophos eth1 then sophos eth0 -> to switch) I cannot reach internet or ping router

I know that the Sophos UTM can provide DHCP services and effectively replace the router. but I would much prefer to use my existing router and Sophos only as a DHCP relay as I have a few devices attached directly to the router and outside my main network to which I want to add the Sophos.

    Hi, same, and welcome to the User BB!

    Ping behavior is regulated on the 'ICMP' tab of 'Firewall'.

    You won't find many people here that would do your attempted configuration without bridging the router or the Sophos.  I think you may not understand what purpose DHCP relay serves as I can't see why you would want it given your topology.  I would guess that your attempt has created an unresolvable routing conflict.

    The optimal solution would be removing the router and bringing all devices behind the Sophos.  To accomplish your "attempted configuration," you will need to bridge eth0 and eth1 in the Sophos.  Depending on what you're trying to accomplish with the Sophos, you may want to just use your current configuration and plug a single Sophos NIC into the switch.

    I was able to solve my DHCP relay issue and have it working in my originally designed fashion now although I am thinking you are correct and eventually it will be best to get rid of the router and bring everything behind the Sophos.
