best way to update a very old version manually?

Hello,
i have a 9.005 fresh appliance and was wondering the best way to go about it, should i upload EVERY patch in the way or am i better off plugging a USB CD drive and reinstalling from scratch?.
(i've never done an appliance reinstall before)

i ask this because i uploaded every update file in the line(the minimum ammount) and i get:

that is kind of dumb , why is it installing 9.201023-201025 instead of u2d-sys-9.200011-201023 which i uploaded before?

but webadmin still shows 9.005

    You would need to upload (or download via up2date), every patch between your version and the newest, as they are not cumulative.  

    You're much better off reinstalling from a new CD using the latest ISO, then restoring a backup file.

    Scott, it's a brand new appliance, nothing to restore luckily.

    i did upload but it's doing funny strange stuff, like the version file showing 9.200 but webadmin stuck on 9.005 then the up2date page not letting me go to the advanced tab(ot goes back to overview)

    Hi Mast, 

    How about deleting everything from /var/up2date/sys folder, reboot and connect the UTM to the Internet again. Then just wait for a while and UTM should download all necessary updates by itself.

    That is the procedure I use for every new client's appliance (except deleting files from sys folder - your mistake...[;)], and waiting - I am pushing it from the console/SSH).

    i did try deleting the sys folders contents, but it's EMPTY!.
    UTM is not connected to internet, the idea is not to download them since i already have them all downloaded.
    I did do a factory reset prior, SYS folder emtpy but updates kept showing, then i tried to up2date again, it did nothing, rebooted and started showing 9.200 all the sudden as installed version, no further up2date files...
    so i just re-uploaded the rest of the patches and it has updated successfully to 9.205-12, very very odd...

    So, you downloaded every single update from 9.005 up to 9.205 (just counted - around 25)....very brave...[:)]

    it's only 19 and i do need them everytime i install a new appliance or bring some dated installation to date (downloading a gig of updates on a 2/3mbps line that is also being used by the users is not my idea of fun, specially if i'm on the field). It's also not fun to waste my BW and time to download the same things over and over if i'm installing them here at the office

    so i have almost all recent up2dates already downloaded
