Can't connect to router

First post, please be gentle [:)]

Ok so i've plugged my router (Cisco 1921) into the wan port and as soon as I do I can no longer reach it.  I can't ping it, nothing.

I've installed the External interface on the UTM with it's own unique IP, is that right?  Lets say for example the UTM is setup as Internal 192.168.1.1, External (WAN) 192.168.1.2, the router then has an IP of 192.168.1.3

I don't know if this is a problem or not but the router is connected to the UTM using a straight through cable too.

What simple thing am I missing here?

    How do you want things to work?  Maybe make a diagram or two: planned future UTM impentation and current working network.

    Are you intending to use the UTM as a bridge or router?  (Same subnet on the inside and outside - on purpose?)

    Are you pinging the router from the UTM or an unmentioned client?

    Well basically I want to put the UTM in between the router and the LAN, it won't be used as a router as the 1921 will be doing that.  Is there something I need to change on the UTM to use it as a bridge?

    When you say same subnet on purpose, i'm slightly confused.  What else would it be if they both have to talk to each other?

    Very basic "diagram" of how I think this should work

    LAN -> UTM -> Router -> Internet

    So the LAN and UTM have the same IP Range and so does the Internal facing Router interface, then the external interface of the router points to the internet.

    I'm pinging from a desktop inside the lan.

    Edit: Ok so I logged into the admin console of the UTM and used the ping check on my router and it says destination host unreachable.

    logon to the UTM console and click on the Interfaces & Routing and click on Bridging

    Ok so, I didn't realise the UTM could take the place of a router.  I've just taken the router out and now it's working..
