Maybe there is another way of licensing the software UTM but does anyone else agree that remembering the last 7 days worth of devices connected to a UTM for licensing purpose isn't fair?
Say for example you licensed your UTM for 50 devices, 25 of those devices is for a business network but the other 25 is for the public to use when they visit an office (wifi for example). For small businesses you could guarantee you'd never hit that 50 devices at any single point of time but over 7 days if you had 5 public users per day plus you're regular 25 business devices that's 60 devices.
I've never seen licensing done like this and question why isn't it based on concurrent usage?
I understand to overcome this you'd purchase a Sophos hardware UTM but you're then limited on the processing power of the smaller units so if you want Fullguard with IPS on a superfast connection of 100mb+ then its going to struggle.
Maybe my thinking is wrong on this?
