Install Freezes Detecting Hardware

I just built a PC to act as my home UTM. This PC has an ASRock Z97 Extreme 6 motherboard, 8GB DDR3 ram, and an Intel Core i7 4790k. The installer detects the CPU, 1TB hard drive, DVD drive, and network interfaces. 

Upon starting the installer I see a message indicating that the installer was unable to open rtc device (rtc0).

Once hardware detection reaches 66% and says detecting other devices, the installer freezes. I can access the log, and bash. A picture of the log is below with the hardware MAC addresses blacked out. Any idea as to why this is happening and what I can do about it? Thanks in advance!



I have tried downloading the UTM 9.201-25.1 ISO multiple times and installing from a USB drive.

    Hi,
    your use of the u7 is  a very big overkill, i3 more than adequate. Next thing is remove one disk, the UTM will only use one disk, preferably the second one a bit small at 29gb.
    rtc0, have you enabled the high performance timer in the bios? Not a major issue for the UTM.
    But beyond those little bits, there is nothing on that display that will help any further diagnosis.

    The second disk is actually my USB drive that I was using to boot off of. As I mentioned in the first post, I have tried booting from USB and from a DVD.

    I have also tried using this media on another machine and all hardware is detected without issue. This machine is very similar with an older Core i7 but is based on the Intel Z68 chipset.

    I have disabled the high performance timer in the BIOS however the rtc device error still appears.

    I have taken a look at the installer log and the messages log in /var/log. The logs contain the following lines. I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

    I ran lspci -tv to see what hardware was being detected. A screenshot of the output is below.



    Looking at the image above it appears to me that no USB hubs are being detected. Intel devices are detected but no recognized on every other computer I have tried the hardware is detected correctly.

    Also notice that in the first screen in my original post, the onboard Intel NIC is detected, but when running  lspci -tv only the onboard Realtek, and Marvel i installed are listed. Could it be that this onboard Intel I218V is causing an issue?

    seems like something (unknown) is hanging during hardware detection...
    0. disconnect all unneeded devices.

    1. make sure the BIOS is up-to-date

    2. try both recent ISOs: 9.1x and 9.2x

    FYI, exit status '0' normally means success.

    I just tried 9.1x with the same result and the BIOS is up to date. I just updated my last post within the last few minutes with the messages log as well. The only connected devices are a display, keyboard, and HDD.

    I have just found a beta version of the BIOS and have installed it now hardware detection completes. I am now running through the installer.

    Update: Install has completed and UTM 9.2 is running!
