Quad core performance issues are back

The latest version has regressed to the performance issues i have routinely documented with QC or above processors under light loads.  I think it was bob that posted that console tweak to change the cpu scheduler to make it more aggressive in ramping cpu speeds.  Anyone able to find that post?

    Hi all,

    Based on what I've learnt from this forum I'd been about to go and buy the quad-core Celeron J1900 2.0GHz for my home firewall.  I don't want to get into off-topic discussions about whether it's the right performance cpu but I'd really like to know if you think these issues with quad-cores mean I'd be better off getting a dual-core instead (in my case that'd be the Celeron J1800 2.4GHz).  I know the general performance differences of the CPU's and the fact that multi-core scales better for more users, what I don't know is how UTM uses threading and whether it doesn't really handle quad-cores very well (as implied by your issues).

    You are wanting to build a machine around a DC Bay Trail Atom.  You won't have the QC issues with that as it isn't a Quad Core cpu and isn't the most powerful cpu around.  As long as you don't have a wan speed above 30 megabits you should be fine with everything active and 10-20 users....depending on usage.  I would highly recommend a haswell series DC celeron or better yet the DC Haswell i-3.

    It's definitely Bay Trail but the J1900 is quad-core, hence the question.  Do you mean I'd be better off with the dual-core instead or did you assume they were both dual-core?  No concerns with WAN speed for my usage, Australia has rubbish internet anyway [:)]
