For some reason there is no mention of any Lenovo PCs or servers in the hardware compatibility list. Is there some incompatibility issue that I should know?
I am looking to use a Lenovo ThinkServer TS140 server for UTM home installation to support 6 users, about 30 devices with AV and IPS on, and a wireless AP (non-Sophos) on a VLAN. Current WAN service is cable modem 30/4 Mbps, but FIOS service is available and I would want to be able to handle 50/25 Mbps.
Specs
Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz
4GB ECC RAM
1 Intel NIC
Price: $250 from Newegg
I'll add a 500GB WD Red HDD and Intel dual NIC.
Looking at the systems that have been recommended in other threads, a Haswell Core i3 at 3.4Ghz should meet the mark. The question is there a reason to avoid a Lenovo server?
Also I have seen reference to problems with Intel PRO 1000/ PT cards. Is that a system specific or general issue and does it affect all cards (single, dual, and quad)? The PT cards are the only ones in my price range.
Thanks,
-Jim
