hardware temperatures

Hi,

Since in my country we are in high season the weather temperatures are going high, sometimes inside office around 27 ºC, yes really high!  so I would like to monitor the temperartures regulary of my UTM hardware (CPU, Hard drive), is there any way to do that like running a script or linux command? [:(]

Thanks.

  • If you login via SSH (Loginuser) you can get sensor values with "sensors". On a UTM425 appliance:
    > sensors
    coretemp-isa-0000
    Adapter: ISA adapter
    Physical id 0:  +39.0°C  (high = +80.0°C, crit = +99.0°C)
    Core 0:         +36.0°C  (high = +80.0°C, crit = +99.0°C)
    Core 1:         +35.0°C  (high = +80.0°C, crit = +99.0°C)
    Core 2:         +38.0°C  (high = +80.0°C, crit = +99.0°C)
    Core 3:         +39.0°C  (high = +80.0°C, crit = +99.0°C)

Only CPU cores, but better than nothing. You may also can get temp values from SNMP. Never tried.
  • A start might be:
    sensors

    and  (root required)
    # smartctl -a /dev/sda

I have not checked to see if the UTM shares temperature data via SNMP.
  • OK guys!

I will test those commands when get at home.

    Thanks.
  • Hi,

I've tested those commands and the results are:

    loginuser@utm9-lan:/home/login > sensors

    acpitz-virtual-0
    Adapter: Virtual device
    temp1:        +27.8°C  (crit = +92.0°C)
    temp2:        +29.8°C  (crit = +92.0°C)

    coretemp-isa-0000
    Adapter: ISA adapter
    Physical id 0:  +45.0°C  (high = +87.0°C, crit = +91.0°C)
    Core 0:         +45.0°C  (high = +87.0°C, crit = +91.0°C)
    Core 1:         +44.0°C  (high = +87.0°C, crit = +91.0°C)

    and the smartctl command:

    loginuser@utm9-lan:/home/login > smartctl -i -a /dev/sda

    -bash: smartctl: command not found
    loginuser@utm9-lan:/home/login >
  • Try that second command as root.

    Cheers - Bob
  • It will likely be beneficial to configure your system with sensors-detect (or editing /etc/sysconfig/lm_sensors.conf) and editing /etc/sensors3.conf for the appropriate values.

    # sensors-detect

sensors3.conf configurations for many boards are at http://www.lm-sensors.org/wiki/Configurations

My previous post has been updated to better reflect the need for root.
  • Hi,

I run the command as root and result is the same.

    loginuser@utm9-lan:/home/login > sudo smartctl -a /dev/sda

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
        #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

    root's password:
    sudo: smartctl: command not found
  • Please try with su - and then run the command in the root environment.

    Cheers - Bob
  • If you wish to use sudo for smartctl you will need to either specify the full path (/usr/sbin/smartctl) or add /usr/sbin/ to loginuser's path.
  • Ok, with su it worked.

    loginuser@utm9-lan:/home/login > su

    Password:
    utm9-lan:/home/login # smartctl -a /dev/sda
