Upgrade Appliance from 8.311 to UTM 9

We have an ASG 220 appliance with firmware version 8.311 with 2GB RAM and plenty of available disk space.

the appliance protects our web servers for which we desire a minimum of downtime.

Up2Date shows an option to upgrade to UTM 9.

my questions are:

1) is it safe to upgrade?

2) what is the expected downtime?

3) do I need to backup and restore my configurations  or is that now done automatically by Up2Date?

    Hi Igal100,

    1) The upgrade from 8.311 to 9.1x is safe. Upgrading to 9.2x should also be safe but as it's new, some bugs are being worked out so YMMV. It's always good to take a backup of the config, the license, and have an UTM Appliance ISO on hand 'just in case'

    2) Depends on whether or not you have HA enabled with a second 220. Downtime in HA is measured in seconds, without HA is several minutes while the appliance reboots.

    3) Up2Date will keep the configuration over the upgrade, however as noted earlier, take a backup copy 'just in case.'

    thank you for the prompt reply!

    I have a backup of our config and I downloaded the ISO for UTM 9 from Index of /UTM/v9/hardware_appliance/iso/

    the person who used to manage the UTM for us probably has a copy of the license, but I don't have it handy.  

    is it possible to retrieve it from the Web GUI?    I don't see an option for that.

    if it is backed up as part of the config then that would be good enough for me, but I can't tell since the config backup seems to be a binary file.
