SG 230 and Fiber

We are looking at the SG 230 appliance and was curious if anyone knew if I need to add a module to pass-through fiber (Fiber in from provider, fiber out to network switch)? It just seems a little unclear from the documentation.

    The SG2x0 series base devices don't come with SFP interfaces.  SFP or SFP+ interfaces can be added with the appropriate FleXi port modules.

    The SG3x0 series base devices have 2 integrated SFP interfaces.  Additional SFP or SFP+ interfaces can be had through FleXi port modules.

    SFP/SFP+ transceivers (modules) and the appropriate fiber cables would also be needed.

    what means pass through?

    Sorry, pass through is not the right phrase. I just mean that I want to have it setup to have a fiber connection coming in from our ISP and fiber connection out to our network switch. It sounds like I will need to purchase the SFP module to put in the SG230.

    Do you really get a fibre uplink from isp?

    I would connect the fibre to a switch. 
    And connect UTM with copper to this switch.


    This way you are able to connect other devices direct to your ISP.

    You have not wasted your Flexiport and it is available for Future use.

    or better yet get the SG310 with te SFP ports already available to use, it comes with 2 x SFP ports.

    Hi,

    Adding a switch creates another point of failure.

    If he's not already using the SFP ports, then they're not going to be 'wasted'.
