Sophos SG Series Appliances (SG 2xx, 3xx 4xx)

Yep, been looking at these... I think it's a good idea to expand the line, and have the SSD options in lower models, and dual power supply option (the 450) in the lower end of the line.

Can send the visio stencils ... if they have the same models used in the datasheet would be cool! :-)

Too bad they couldn't mention "4th Generation Intel Core" in the brochure or specs page.

Going from a Westmere (2xE5620) server to a Haswell (i7-4800MQ) laptop, I've noticed my laptop is almost always faster (but haven't fed the Westmeres something that saturates the CPU yet).

Interesting to note that "FleXi Port" is the exact same name their newly purchased company (Cyberoam) uses on their devices.  This may be interesting to watch how the two progress.

I like that they are going to SSD.

I just sold my first SG pair.  I will be replacing a pair of old 220's with a pair of SG310's.

Has anyone done something like this before.  I'm wondering if I can do this seamless without downtime.  IE- pull out the standby 220 and insert the new 310, then failover to it.

The only problem I see is the 220's are still on version 8 as they cannot be upgraded to version 9.

Tom -- It sounds like you haven't been a reseller all that long., welcome to the club.

The long and short of it is no, you can't HA a 220 and 310 together.  The only migration path available to you is to import a backup from the old 220 onto one of the 310s, then build a new HA pair with the other 310.  There will be some downtime, although it should be minimal.

I thought so thanks for confirming.  I've been here for a while though, I only sell about 20 units a year so I'm not up on everything. [:D]

Does anyone have any firmer details on the hardware, especially how they compare CPU/RAM wise to the UTMr5 of 220/320/425?

Even the SG230 blows the doors of a UTM320

The only i3 4th gen at 3.5 appears to be an i3-4330, dual core with HT.

Even that much RAM and considering the CPU generation gap, it might be competing with a UTM425r5 i5-2400 4c@3.1G w/ 8G RAM

According to the document the numbers are based on the new Intel Haswell architecture.
