SSG line of hardware appliances

Hi Sophos,

You have released a new patch a few days a go for our UTM's. The patch only states that it "Adds support for new SSG line of hardware appliances".

Where are the details of these devices, we looking to purchase a device for our organisation and I have known for sometime Sophos are releasing new appliances. However, where can we learn or look at the specs of these new devices?

We are excited to purchase a new device, but don't want to be caught out with an old previous model.

Hi, based on a post from AngeloC this week, I'm guessing the new versions will at least come with more RAM.

Figures. [:)] Every time I buy new appliances six months later new hardware revisions come out.

But mino said, that the new name is not SSG anymore, the new name will be SG.
I hope I get an answer, for what ssg stands.

Another network/security vendor uses SSG to mean "Secure Services Gateway".

The naming certainly threw me for a moment when I first read it - I doubt I'll be the only one confused by the naming choice.

that's another vendor..not Sophos..[:)]

I have spoken into someone in Sophos that it has much better hardware, and comes with SSD drives.

One example that was mentioned was the "SSG 330" i5, 128gb SSD, 16/18 ports with SFP.

However, I am not sure if the current hardware will remain and the SSG will be aimed at more of a premium level of hardware purchase or it will be replacing the current line? and it is yet to see if the price points will be similar or more.

Hey William,
they still don't put enough ram in these things. Still talk about 1gb minimum and 2gb recommended.
I would suggest 2gb minimum and 4 to 8gb recommended.
20gb disk minimum, 40gb recommended again should be 60-80gb minimum and 120gb recommended.
It is not as if memory is expensive and on one of these devices it might add $20-40.
Not a deal breaker, in fact probably a deal maker.
