I don't know exactly how well they will perform compared to an i3 for example, but they will certainly be slower. You might find that it cannot do 50mpbs for a single user (if you care).
Re NICs: All Intel NICs that I know of are supported. The 'Pro 1000' is a large series, but they are all excellent.
Even the $20 Intel desktop PCI NICs are OK (certainly better than Realtek, et al.)
