Why is the Up2Date default setting 15 minutes?

I have now done test installs of both UTM 9.1 and 9.2
On both versions, the default setting for the Firmware download interval and the Pattern download/installation interval were set at 15 minutes.
Why is the default setting using such a very short time interval?
It seems to me, that this generates a lot of unnecessary traffic.

I immediately changed both settings to Daily.
Once a day is often enough.

    Hi Velvetfog,
    your grey beard must be making you forget, it has always been 15 minutes, at least since 2005 when I first started using Astaro.
    Since I changed mine to pattern update every 30 minutes I get more updates than I did every 15 minutes and firmware updates once an hour.
    Of 96 request a day when 15 minutes I was getting 16 pattern updates, now with 30 minute updates I get 66 approx requests and 22 updates. It could be there are more nasties out there causing more updates?

    "Once a day" is often enough for firmware updates. True. 
    It is by far too seldom for definition updates. New threads pop up and journey through the net within a few hours. Daily updates will give you considerably less protection. I'd say hourly updates should give the best tradeoff between traffic and protection. 
    Additionally - if there is no newer pattern package - there's nothing to download. And the update check consumes just some 100 KB.
