Want to pull my hair out.......

I am trying to install UTM 9 on an ESXi 5.5 VMWare Host.  Initially I followed the advice and downloaded the latest iso, and tried to create a virtual machine, and attached the iso as a CD to boot from.  The vm does not even boot, it gets part way through the first line of Linux..... then freezes.  

Tried all different options for single processor, multi processor.  Types of LAN Adapters etc.  Cannot get past this point.

Tried to open the iso to check the iso is good, all looks fine.

So here I decided to download the Appliance.  I installed this, and the VM started, and all looks good.  I attached the VM to the ADSL Internet Router, and all looked good.  Until I tried to perform updates to get the latest version.

It seems the VM cannot resolve the required ftp server names. I tried to use the DHCP from the router, and also to manually set the DNS server address.  Using bother the local DNS server, and trying Google 8.8.8.8, non seem to make any difference.

Now the startup wizard seems to make lots of rules for DNS forwarding, and a Service for the up2date etc.  So I would pretty much expect it to have all the required rules to update itself without lots of setup.  But that does not seem to be the case.

I have connected a simple Windows system tothe same ADSL Router, using the same settings that I tried on the appliance, and all works great, I can access any site I need to.

So after about 6 hours of trying, I am ready to pull my hair out.  

Can someone please tell me where I am going wrong, either in making a VM using the latest iso, or with how to get the Virtual Appliance to update.

    Hi, are you sure the ESXi VM host is set up correctly?

    Do you have a NIC dedicated to the internet connection, passed directly to the VM?

    Do you have a bare-metal machine you can try?

    Try ping and traceroute (by name and by IP) from the UTM console.

    For the VM problem, I created the VM with 2 network adaptors. One connected to the LAN and one connected to the WAN.

    Unfortunately I do not have a spare computer I can use to perform a bare metal installation.  But based on what other have written, others seem to have made it work.  So I am a little confused.  I even tried to duplicate the exact same hardware settings from the downloaded vm.

    For the downloaded vm.  I have found what the issue was.  For some reason after you change the DNS forwarding settings, they do not take effect until you restart the VM.  Once I restarted it, I could then access web sites, and then up2date began to work as designed.
