New Sophos UTM Install on KVM - Blank Screen

Good Afternoon,

I am considering switching from Untangle to Sophos UTM Home and am trying to install it in a virtual machine in KVM guest on Ubuntu 12.04.  I downloaded the 2 latest ISOs and after installing each, after reboot, all I get is a black screen and a maxxed-out CPU.  I've let it sit there for over a half hour and it never changes.  I've tried various install options... 32-bit, 64-bit, with/without tools, different resources (more or less memory, CPUs, disk, etc), but no change.

I found a post from December that indicated one of the older ISOs worked in KVM but the newer ones were doing the same thing for him.  I'm now downloading asg-9.007-5.1.iso but this is from August of last year and even if this works I'd like to run a newer release if possible.  Is this a known problem and/or can someone please advise?

    Quick update - When configuring the KVM host settings, I forced it to i686.  This time after installing it appears to boot up and allow me to access the web interface.  It appears that the 64bit version is broken.  Although, when I let KVM stay at 64 bit and I told the Sophos install not to install the 64bit, it was still broken.

    So, I guess I can play around with the 32bit version for now but would really like to know what's wrong with the 64bit version on KVM.

    I'm not sure I'd call the 64-bit image completely broken, since it runs just fine under other hypervisors, but I'll grant you there does appear to be a problem running it under a 64-bit KVM VM.  Can you connect to a VTTY serial console to get some idea of what's going on when it hangs?

    In fact the SMP support is broken. Just fire up KVM with single CPU mode.

    Thanks for the replies.  I'll try out connecting via console when I get home.  I have tried it under VMware Player and it fires right up, but I don't have the option to switch from KVM at this time.

    I have only been configuring the KVM VMs with 1 core (single CPU).  I may have tried 2 cores once, just to see if it would make a difference.  Is SMP support only broken in 64bit or in 32 bit too?

    Quick note on my experience with SOPHOS UTM and KVM.  In short, from a KVM standpoint, 64bit is still broken.  On the FAQ/support page it says there is a possible deadlock with multiple cpu's.  This is only true for the 64bit version.  As of firmware 9.201-25 single cpu and multi cpu deadlock on boot in KVM.  I installed the 32bit version of 9.201-25 with 4 cpus and 4GB of ram and it works great.  Also extremely fast and very high bandwidth performance using the virtio drivers for the network cards.  ***Note UTM 9.201-25 as a KVM guest with virtio network drivers is WAY higher performance than the same version on ESXi 5.5 using e1000 drivers.  For those looking for performance it would be nice if some time would be spent on fixing the 64bit to work with KVM.  Also hopefully this helps someone...THE E1000 drivers in vmware are drastically limiting your performance.  This can be proven by testing KVM on the same hardware or by installing UTM on bare metal (im actually not sure if thats possible but if it works I guarantee you will see the bottleneck that is the e1000 emulation in vmware).  For my bandwidth needs
