If a purchase a Mobo with a Wifi card then Can I use it as a Wifi router?

I running the Home Lic of 9.1x
I am planning on purchasing the Intel Motherboard with a dual Intel Giagbit Nics and an integrated 802.11ac card. 

If I install Sophos 9.2 directly onto the machine will I be able to use the built in WiFi NIC as a router for other devices to connect too via Sophos Alone? (Including WPA-2 encryption etc)  Or do I have to run the Sophos UTM as a Virtual Machine and then let the host OS deal with the Wifi? 
This is the Motherboard I am considering along with a 3.5Ghz I3 chip.

    A couple of things come to mind:

    • I only see one gigabit NIC plus the Wi-Fi - where are you seeing a second NIC?
    • I doubt that the UTM code includes drivers for the mini-PCI Wi-Fi card, so I suspect that, yes, you will need to run it inside a VM and virtualize the network interfaces.

    Hi,  even virtualization is unlikely to help; esxi, et al don't have any support for creating an AP.

    You just saved me $90 since I was thinking the .ac router mobo as a replacement for my current N router....a new ac router is at least $100 so I figured if I could do this with Sophos UTM then it will be a win win...no extra boxes to clutter around.

    Oh well, I am going back to buying the chepo $50 mobo.

    Yeah have a VMware Workstation 10 lic, so was planning on using this under either a windows host or a Linux host.

    Hi,

    You will get terrible network performance with any virtualization host other than a 'bare-metal' hypervisor (ESXi, etc.).
    Workstation doesn't count.
