ASG220 Eth1/WAN Interface Displays Error on Dashboard

Hi!

I have a major problem with a Sophos ASG220. All of a sudden it has stopped transmitting and the dashboard entry for the external interface displays "Error" in the State column.
After adjusting the interface MTU from 1500 to 1300 and 1400 and rebooting several times, sometimes the "Error" indicator disappears, the interface displays "Up" on State and Link, but it still wont transmit data, and cant successfully ping its gateway address.

We checked the cable and network connectivity with a laptop and we are sure it's fine.

Please what could be the problem, and how can I fix?
