UTM@Home Network Performance

Hi

I'm running a UTM installation on a HP microserver at home to protect the network and ensure the kids don't go places they shouldn't.

The problem I have is the impact the UTM is having on network throughput and pings.

I'm running 9.104. The dashboard says the CPU is

    it's not somewhat low end it's bottom feeder low end..along with the atoms.  YOu aren't going to get full line speed with ips AND http on..period.  it's one or the other..or i would highly recommend..a new machine with a celeron or higher dual care 2.2 ghz or faster.

    I believe the 54L uses a onboard broadcom network chipset... Try finding a pci-express card (on ebay/computer shop) that has a dual Intel NIC and I think you will find your ping performance be what it should be.

    or upgrade to the new Hp Micro Gen 8 and you will get better results [:)]

    Hi, all of the (many) HP servers I have used have had Broadcom NICs, and I have not had a problem with any of them (on Ubuntu, CentOS, and Win Server).

    I can't say for certain that they are any better or worse than Intel, but do you have a reason to believe they are?

    The Gen8's have Broadcom NICs too (I recently got a Gen8 microserver for a home dev & NAS server):
