Can I restore HW config on SW install?

I have an ASG320 running the latest 8.3x version.  Unfortunately, I need to upgrade the hardware it in order to run v9.x  

We're having an issue with VOIP and support thinks that a new QoS feature in v9 will resolve the problem.

Could I install ASG software version 9 on a test computer, restore the configuration from my ASG320, and use an evaluation license to test that hypothesis?  I'd like to do a proof of concept and verify that v9 will resolve my problem.

Would I also need 8 NIC's in the box, even though I'm only using 2.  I could virtualize the configuration on ESXi and add 6 phantom NIC's.

    Hi, 

    Normally, you can restore a backup on any system with at least as many NICs as are ACTIVE (enabled) when the backup was made.

    However, the evaluation license will be cancelled as soon as you import a backup.

    Maybe your reseller can provide you some other options.

    You do not need the same number off nics. 

    But you will have Interfaces with no pysical Interface assigned and have to manage it by yourself (delete them, switch to vlan, ...).

    In your configuration 2 nics are enough, but I recommend to add some more for future use.

    Barry, thanks for the reply.

    Rather than import the old configuration, I'll do a simple ASG install on a pc and see if v9 will fix my VOIP quality issues.  

    Tests with Wireshark today have confirmed that our ASG is causing the problems.

    Even When you use eth0 and eth7 you only Need two nics.

    You Must make sure internal is on an available Interface. After installing backup you are able to fix the interfaces.

    One other option, just switch eth7 to eth1 First.
