Swap File Excessive

Swapping is normal and won't affect performance as long as the RAM isn't near 100%.
If you don't want a high swap, reboot your device every day.
If you don't mind, leave it as it is... [;)]

If you notice peformance issues due to excessive swapping, your device has too little RAM for the features used in conjunctin with your amount of users and your internet bandwidth. Then you will have to consider a hardware upgrade or reduce the features used.

The thing is, the swapping just started to creep up.  See attached pictures.

home user with 4 or 5 active devices at the moment running 9.103-5. One user is downloading large files, around 10-30gb a day. Mem runs around 60% peak, swap hit max of 22% before I cleared cache which dropped swap back to 17%. Memory usage is about where I would expect it should be considering the range of features I am using. System up time is just over 15 days (18th July 2013).
Normally I don't see swap  this high with GA versions, but do with beta versions.
So, yes, in my opinion there is something wrong.

I can confirm there is a problem with high SWAP .
I am using clusters of 525 that since 9.1 runing on 60% swap after a week or 2.
High level support confirms its coming from SNORT.
Last update 9.103-5 did not help.
Working on that with support and dev.

You call 60% high swap?
Just look at what my UTM 220 just did today with Firmware 9.103

HI Bob, I am not sure what exactly you mean.
Previously I was on 9.006-5 with stable 57% RAM and 33 % Swap over the whole month on the very same UTM with same config.

OK, understood see the attached file for my results.
Also now the Swap is again less than RAM in percentage as you might see:
RAM currently 69%
Swap 58%

So something caused the UTM to totally peak out the Swap for about 1 hour

I don't know if the problem with Sophos AV has been solved.  I set all of my clients with single-scan AV and select "Avira" on the 'Scan Settings' tab of 'System Settings'.

I'm going to upgrade to the latest GA on Friday to see if it fixes anything.  The client UTM 220 is currently using Single Scan with Sophos.  I will try with Avira.
