An Atom board using 8Gb RAM and Dual Nics from Supermicro

I was chatting with an Intel rep, and he pointed out this board and CPU.  I didn't know that an Atom and board existed that will take 8Gb of RAM.  Has anyone tried this board out?  Might be a reasonable choice for some (home?) users for a small low power box.  Supermicro says they came out with it in December.

It's a Supermicro X9SBAA-F - Atom CPU, 8Gb RAM, dual Gb Ethernet ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports

    1. NICs are Intel i350AM2; I haven't seen that model # before; need to find out if those work in the UTM.

    2. My 1.6GHz Atom is OK, but the Snort IPS can't handle more than about 50mbps. Also, I'm not running A/V or content filtering. 
    A dual-core Atom would only help so much.

    Intel supposedly has faster "Silvermont" Atom's coming out sometime this year, but AMD already has a line of faster, low-power, cheap CPUs...
    The Kabini series are 9-25W, including graphics, and (except maybe the 1.0GHz model) should be significantly faster than any current Atom. 
    I don't know if there are any good boards with decent dual-NICs or not, but the CPUs just came out last month so boards may be forthcoming; most seem to be going into netbooks right now.

    I think the Silvermont Atoms are coming at the end of this year and maybe a quad core early next.  But if you wanted a power sipping firewall now, this might be the ticket.  Put in an SSD and 8Gb and it will probably handle most homes quite well.

    The NUC's are coming too.  They'll be small, but probably not as power efficient.  It all depends on what you need it to do for you.
