I am trying to learn more about firewalls in general so the UTM home looked to be a great place to play and learn. I built a simple microATX system with dual nics and have the UTM software installed but am so far only using the LAN nic so it is out-of-band at this time. I am ready to move it into use so here is where I was not sure, hooking into the WAN side.
for existing devices I have a Commcast cable modem and a netgear wireless router. I have DHCP right now setup on the wireless router and was going to leave it there.
here is the question: when I move the the cat5 from the comcast to the WAN port on the new firewall do I
- use "Standard Ethernet with DHCP"
-on the LAN side do I move the Cat5 from the standard port it is in now on the netgear to the internet "in" which is were the Comcast was going (basically making this a inline system to what was there
I think this is right, but could not find any documents to confirm it.
huge thanks in advance for any help..
