UTM cluster with HW appliance and VM appliance

Hello forum members,

I have seen a few questions with creating a HA cluster with different types of UTM appliances already but just wanted to make sure if the following is not possible.

We have a Sophos UTM 320 hardware appliance and eventually want to create a HA cluster. The question is, can we use a VM appliance (running under ESX) as passive node or should both nodes really be the same hardware and software (which would mean we would need two UTM320 HW appliances with same software and proper licenses)?

Again I appologise if this question might have been asked in this forum already somewhere.

    Hi, Mark, and welcome to the User BB!

    It is not possible to do HA with a 320 and a 220 or a 320 and a software version - due to licensing issues.

    In general, I don't recommend Clusters any more unless you're clustering several 625s.  Rather than a cluster of two 320s, it's less expensive and more robust to have two 425s in Hot-Standby.
