Sophos UTM + Dual Quad core cpu ?

How would Sophos UTM v. 9.101-12.1 take advantage of Dual Quad core cpu ?
Does it use both cpu ? 
Would it use more that one core when processing Web Protection, IPS, SMTP  and Antivirus scanning ?

If not is their a way to make those process use more than 1 core

    What would be the best for a home network if I plan on enabling most of the UTM services and have a web, FTP and email server on the network? I'm on a slow connection right now but I'm going to upgrade to at least a 20 MB connection soon. There will not be more than 5 users on the network at any given time but a couple of the websites get a decent amount of public traffic and someone is always downloading something or streaming.

    I'm torn between a server with two Quad Core Intel E5405 2.0GHz Xeon processors and a desktop unit with a single Intel Core2 Quad Q9650 @ 3.0GHz. They are both about the same price.

    Both have 4GB of RAM and I'm thinking about just making it a standalone UTM device rather than going the virtualization route. 

    Which box do you guys think would be better in my situation? It seems like the consensus is speed but I'm also comparing a server to a desktop.
