Possible to run HA with one server physical and one server virtual?

Hi all.

We have been running our UTM in our VMWare vSphere cluster for quite some time now (years).  I have never (shame on me) brought up a second UTM for HA and would like to finally do so.  We have some spare servers that are idle that are more than enough to run UTM and I got to thinking it would be a great thing to have a HA setup with one VM and one physical.  is this possible?  I have read that you need to have the two HA UTMs on the same version and same hardware - if so I guess this wouldn't work.  Is this true?

The benefit for us is that it would allow me to remote in from offsite and do maintenance on the VM infrastructure and still have a way to connect back in (via the physical UTM server) if I had to reboot / take the VM server(s) down.

    You might need to experiment with the server separately first to see which Interface assignments show up on which NICs, but, as long as you have the same number of NICs, I think it should work.

    Please let us know either way.

    Thanks for the input Bob.

    We have just a few weeks of school left here where I work (K-12 school district), so I'll wait until classes are done and the kids go home for the summer before I attempt this.  Once I give it a try I'll let you know if it works or not.
