ASG 220 8.103 up2date 8.309

Hi together,

there is one ASG 220 at our company running version 8.103. There are 14 updates available, the newest one is 8.309.
As i'm completely new to managing the ASG 220, i would like to ask, if there are any known problems when updating to the newest 8.309 version.

Should i do a step by step upgrade ?
Can i directly go from 8.103 to 8.309 ?
How long will the update take ?

What can i do, if the update process is hanging ?

     I don't know of any, as far as you don't upgrade to v9 (there are some points to consider).

    The update has to go step by step, but if you click "Update to the lastest version" (or so), the ASG will do the work for you. It will install all updates and finally do a reboot (so you have to schedule downtime)!

    How long will the update take ?

    Depends on the amount of update and their amount of bugfixes & features. My experiences go from 2 up to 30 minutes (or even more, if many updates). So calculate your downime window long enough.

    What can i do, if the update process is hanging?

    But to be prepared:

    • Have a current backup file of your configuration
    • Download and burn the lastest ASG-ISO from download.astaro.com (ssi-8.309-15.1.iso in your case)
    • Have a USB DVD drive, a VGA screen and a USB keyboard

    With this you can reimage your appliance in the worst case. If you put an unencrypted (means without password) backup file (.abf) on a FAT(32) USB stick and stick it in, the ASG will automatically apply this config on startup.
    So simply install from the ISO and plug this USB stick in before the initial boot after setup.

    Note: You can apply an older backup to a newer firmware version, but not the oher way (newer backup to older firmware).
