Enlarge drive size of virtual appliance of UTM

Hello

I'm using the virtual appliance of UTM. Installing the VMware package creates only small drive space for the protocols and the data. I have already reduced the number of protocols which are kept etc. Nevertheless especially the drive for the protocols gets into swapping within only a couple days. Is there a possibility to enlarge the drives? Within the virtual appliance template they are only set to 2.5Gb or so.

    Hi Roger,

    I'm not sure what you mean by protocols. Drive's can't get into swapping, only main memory can.

    If you're meaning the virtual disk assigned to the UTM is too small, the simplest way to fix that, if you can tolerate the loss of logs, is to reinstall the UTM. When you do, download the software installation ISO as newer versions of the UTM have vmware tools installed and can sense when they are going into a virtual environment. The included vmware specific install is really only good for ESXi 3.x installs and the occasional quick demo on ESXi 4.x.

    The software installer will automatically carve up the virtual disk into appropriately sized chunks so creating a 40GB or 80GB disk should be more then adequate for most uses. Only thing that is fixed is the swap partition which is set to 1GB.

    A couple tips, too, that aren't questions you've asked.  Install from scratch using the software ISO.  Use the Vmxnet virtual NICs, definitiely not the Flexible NICs.

    Thanks for the hint. I will Download the software version instead of the VMware version, so I will be able to set the size of the available storage for the vm.

    I have installed the Software Version of the Sophos UTM 9 on my VMware esxi 5.1 and it's working fine. I was able to set the drives to a larger size so now this is ok. VMware tells me to install the VMware tools. Doing so inside the vSphere client software does't work. After three days it still tells me that it is installing. Installing the tools seems to be not quite that easy. Can someone give some advice?

    Hi Roger,

    You shouldn't have to install VMware Tools despite what the ESXi client says. ESXi will show the UTM guest as 'unmanaged' but this is expected as Sophos installed the tools during initial installation.
