No link light. NIC: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6105/VT6106S [Rhine-III]

I have this hardware in a Sophos UTM 9 box as a third NIC. It seems to be found  without issue and I can configure it.

It says the interface is up, but link down. I have swapped cables and confirmed that the router from the second ISP will show a link light when plugged into the old firewall with the same cable.

Do I just have a bad NIC or an HCL issue?

    Hi, 
    Normally the link light on a NIC will come on even with no OS running, so it sounds like a hardware problem.

    You could try another cable.

    Also, try running ethtool on the command line and see what it says about the link status; e.g.
    ethtool eth2
