Home Connection setup help

Hi,

I've installed  UTM 9 on an old network appliance with 2 network interfaces.  The install went OK, but what I need help with is how to connect it to my home router setup.  I have a D-link 615 (providing LAN & WiFi), which the UTM is connected to a LAN port. I can access the Web Admin Interface OK.  I have connected the outbound port on the UTM to my VirginMedia Superhub running on modem mode.  the UTM gets an external IP, and has the correct DNS servers, but my LAN & WiFi clients can't browse the internet.  What do I need to do on my D-link to get it to route outbound traffic down to the UTM?  The D-Link is running DD-WRT.

    Hi, 

    The UTM blocks everything by default, so you need to:
    1. set up Masquerading for your LAN->External Interface

    2. create packetfilter rules to allow outbound traffic

    3. (optional but recommended) setup the DHCP server for your LAN in the UTM, AND disable DHCP on the DDWRT router's LAN interfaces

    4. setup the DNS server (proxy) for your LAN in the UTM

    Then, I recommend plugging a laptop or PC directly into the LAN interface of the UTM to see if internet access is working.

    If everything works, plug a LAN port of the DDWRT into the LAN port of the firewall, and see if everything is still working.

    In this configuration, the DDWRT is only acting as a switch and WiFi AP, not as a router.
