getting an ip from my isp

I have been trying for a few days now. When i set up one of my nic cards as an external device that will connect to my cable modem i cannot receive an ip from my isp. I have time warner cable if that matters. I do believe that as a home user we have five ip that can be issued to us so not thinking that this is the problem.

    It’s working now. I’m not sure what I did differently this time but I reinstalled UTM 9 and uploaded my Astaro 3.8 backup and my External interface instantly got an IP from the provider. Both NICs are two on-board Nvidia MCP55  (Marvell 88E1116 chip-set I believe). The NIC manufacturer should not matter that much unless the maker of your motherboard is really, really cheap. But i agree with William that Intel NICs are usually very straightforward and stable.

    For what it’s worth (seem you already did all these steps) here is exactly what I did:

    1: Unplugged the cable modem power cord (if you have a backup battery remove it from the modem)

    2: Install the Sophos software

    3: When the Sophos router has completely finished booting plug the power cord and battery to the modem and wait until the modem has completely booted.

    4: Configure your NICs with the Basic Setup Wizard or load a backup.
