Hardware Refresh - passive HA with the old ASG220?

My reseller sent my a cryptic replay when I asked him so I guess that I'm going to call Sophos to see if I can get a straight answer.

If I used this to upgrade my ASG220 to a UTM220, could I still use my ASG220 in passive HA?  Or once the hardware refresh program has been used, is my old ASG220 banished from all official Astaro/Sophos use?

I realize that I'd never be able to use it in active HA mode but what about passive?

No, that is not possible to use this old device als passive HA. 
After the registration you get an address, actually you have to send it to this adress... or destroy the old device... but...
normally you can keep the hardware an install the home license.

All the devices, that we have changed, we (or the customer) use this for test purposes or demonstrations (with home or test license).

As for those asking about pricing, no, we don't post pricing or try to sell to customers on this board; contact your reseller, they should be able to give you pricing and determine your eligibility (and savings) for using the currently available Hardware Refresh Program.

BTW, if you do get an appliance upgrade via the Hardware Refresh Program, as part of getting the discount you have to verify that you will quit using the old appliance altogether.  I wouldn't try to setup an HA with 2 units that differed that much in hardware specs anyway, can only lead to issues, and given that you aren't supposed to use the old appliance with the hardware refresh program, it would be unsupported.

Just got off the phone with tech support.  It will work but it won't. [;)]

They said that I could use my old ASG220 in passive HA.  (Even though it was decommissioned through the Hardware Refresh program.)  BUT because my rev2 ASG220 is old and underpowered, once I put v9 on it to match the new UTM220, it would most likely not handle the load when my new UTM220 failed in HA.

So I guess it all comes down to if I want to have an underpowered failover setup (old ASG220 and new UTM220), or a good failover setup (two new UTM 220's).

If u have a ASG220 REV4, put it some RAM and it will work fine with UTM9.
As far as i Know UTM220REV5 which is fully supported and ASG220REV4 have exactly the same Hardware, but the UTM has more RAM.
