Astaro ASG220 Rev2 vs Sophos UTM120

Please note, I've amended a typo in my original post, the RAM is actually now a total of 1GB with the upgrade, not 2GB as originally posted, Sorry!.

The box is going to be used to create a VPN back in the remote office (15 - 20 fairly heavy web users) to the Head Office, it will be running the Network subscription initially and all traffic will sent to the Head Office for web filtering etc, then out through the Head Office Internet connection.

At a later date, the web subscription may be added to this remote ASG along with a dedicated local Internet connection. At this point AV and IPS will have to be utilised on it aswell.

The CPU in the Rev2 ASG220 I have is a P4, 2.88GHz / 512 / 533.

Does this change anyone's views?.

well that changes everything..you need a new machine..2 gigs if the bare minimum with 4 gigs the realistic minimum.

Hi William, Does UTM9 start grabbing heavily into RAM once loaded with users?, just that I've done some testing today.

I've installed 9.003 on it and created a VPN through a 3G card, enabled IPS, then done some web surfing / streaming and the RAM usage is currently at 44% (of 1GB) with no swapping which seems pretty good to me!.

give it time.  especially if you ahve http proxy AND ips going.  yes the moe users the more it grabs.  if you re one user you'll be ok..for a bit..it will start swapping though...it's just a mater of time.  

BTW i say 5 users at my place and there are 5 but i can make utm9 fall over just by myself...[[[:)]]]  Something about me opening 35 tabs in chrome first thing in the morning..every morning..[[[:)]]]  That's before other testing..[[[:)]]]
