Up2Date update duration?

I have just started at a company and we have an ASG V8 8.300 (software).
I have been asked to do an impact analysis to use up2date to upgrade to 8.305, however i'm unable to find any information on best practice/duration of these updates.

I hope someone can tell me if it would be best to use the option to go straight from 8.300 to 8.305 or install the updates one at a time?
Also since no-one working here has ever performed an update on the Astaro i have no idea what kind of time frame we're looking at.
If we update one at a time we're looking at 5 reboots, but if we go form 8.300 to 8.305 will it require only one reboot?

Oh and of course looking into all this i have come across UTM9, should we go for that instead?

When you select a newer up2date package, but there are older ones, they are chained together.

Depends on the hardware, but your "downtime" during the post-install reboot shouldn't be more than a couple of minutes.

Correct. As already mentioned, if you choose 8.305, the available up2dates are chained together and installed at once, so you don't miss anything.
i have come across UTM9, should we go for that instead?
Make an informed decision and read the What's New and release notes. up2date.astaro.com.

Thank you for your quick reply, i only have one question now in regards to one of your answers:

Does this mean ASG will continue functioning fully while installing, and the only actual downtime will be when it reboots? Or does it mean that total installing time (and therefore downtime) will depend on hardware?

Yes, the only actual downtime will be when it reboots, but boot time does depend on the hardware.

I'm not recommending upgrades to V9 for my customers yet, but if you have a need for one of the new capabilities and aren't doing things susceptible to problems with the few, known bugs, it could make sense for you. If you have an ASG hardware appliance, you might want to wait for 8.306 in order to be able to do the upgrade-in-place.

Going to upgrade to 8.305 for now, will let the higher ups decide if they want UTM9 =)
