Failed to partition device /dev/sda/

I have searched the forums and found one post regarding this error via a Google search.

I have a small Gigabyte motherboard (microATX) with 2 GBs of RAM and a now new Western Digital 320 GB SATA HD. The old drive was a Seagate 250 GB SATA HD and ASG 8.1 installed fine on it but the drive died and was RMA'd. 

So, with this drive I downloaded Sophos UTM 9 (the software disc, not the appliance disc) and I get the following error during the hard drive partition:

Failed to partition device /dev/sda/

1. Is there a simple fix for this?
2. Should I use something like GParted to create my own partitions?

    Frankly, in my humble opinion, the Seagate is a better drive anyway --- we see a lot of failed WD HDs in workstations, etc., a lot more than the other brands, in servicing our customers.  WD is actually the one brand we won't even buy.

    I completely agree actually. Having been in IT for 12 years now I pretty much swore off WD for years. I have stuck with Seagate for everything including my home drives and the FreeAgent drives for portable things. I received the WD drive as a freebie from a friend basically so I figured I'd give WD a chance again. What was I thinking? lol
