[9.000][BUG] Upgraded from 7.512, ssh gives 'Access denied'

I just upgraded our test system from v7.512 to v9.000 via 8.305 and I can't log into the firewall on ssh.

login as: loginuser

loginuser@10.10.10.1's password:
Access denied

I'm pretty sure I'm typing the correct password. Also tried to copy paste into putty.

Is there a bug in v9 when using an older v8.305 config? Or is not root and loginuser passwords migrated with the configuration backup file?

Since this is a test system I can easily use WebAdmin to change the passwords, but I need this to work, so I can do my checks on the production systems I'm planning to upgrade.

  • If you're using WinSCP and/or Putty, it really pays to use puttygen to create ssh keys, and then to put your public key into 'Authorized keys for root'.

After you have your puttygen keys, go to 'Shell Access', select 'Allow public key authentication' and 'root access but only with ssh key' and add your public key.  Next, start putty, goto ssh auth and set your private key.
