How to Upgrade from 8.305 to UTM 9

Hello Guys,

 As the buzz is in the air to use UTM9 we are also very excited to start using it. I have looked around Sophos website and Astaro forum a bit but confused about how to use it so please if someone can help me here.

 We have Astaro Software appliance 8.305 enterprise license with all features included. Now i am wondering if UTM9 is officially released to use? If it is then how can i upgrade my 8.305 to UTM9? I think i have to take backup of 8.305 first and then do the install of UTM9 and restore the backup? 

 And what about the license. The current Astaro License will work for UTM9 for all the features or we need a separate license? 

 If someone can tell me the Pre-req, upgrade procedure and licensing procedure so we can also start using UTM9 in our network.

    It looks at a number of factors; specific model HDs, amounts of RAM, MB BIOS info (I think), and special info stored in a "hidden" spot on the HD itself.  You could have the exact same OEM appliance and it probably would not work due to all of the checks used (and rightfully so).

    Thanks for the info.  Not trying to trick anything.  UTM hardware is just slightly more of a pain to upgrade since I've got to track down an external optical drive.  I installed originally quite a while ago, so finding my external optical drive might be a challenge.  Perhaps I'll wait until 8.306 comes out - just in case by some stroke of luck it lets me do the normal upgrade.  I'm not holding my breath, but there is nothing pushing me to upgrade immediately other than my own desire to check out what's different.

    I agree with Bruce that it's not going to work.  Someone found that unetbootin works to load from a USB memory stick; read the third page of USB Stick Install Solved.

    I just performed the 9.000 ISO install and applied my v8.305 configuration. Went without a hitch. I also downloaded and applied 9.001 and 9.002 patches.
    I used a new HDD; 320GB IIRC. I still have the ~80GB drive I had 8.305 installed on just in case 9.002 decides to give me any trouble. I can just swap drives back and I'm in business. But my config is rather simple, just 3 interfaces and some web filtering for one of the networks.
