Hi, Revob, and welcome to the User BB!

William's talking about Astaro/Sophos appliances.  With 8.306, folks will be able to upgrade an appliance to V9 without reloading from ISO.  If you're not using an Astaro/Sophos appliance, you can't do an upgrade, rather you will have to load V9 with a CD.  In that case, if you want to move to V9 now, you can restore a V8.305 configuration backup after loading V9.

But if you don't mind about your logfiles and don't want to save them separately, you can backup your actual 8.305 machine, install the V9 from CD and import the backup file.
Works pretty well, all settings and rules and so on are in place.

Ah...and like Bob said this is the only way to upgrade a software installation.

A small tip for the nerdy, EXT4 is now used as the default file system, this is especially helpful for SSD support.

If you appliance upgade from V8 using the one-touch upgrade you will still use EXT3, but if you re-install and restore a backup file you will have EXT4 as a file system.

uhhh no i was talking about software.  Astaro had said up2date on software is coming as well.

on the forums..in a response to a direct question i asked....i'll have to look.. heck i'll just ask my channel rep.  I went form 4- upgraded in place software..7-8 as well..don't know why you couldn't do 8-9.
