11 Mbit connect drops to 5mbit behind Astaro

So I've been getting an install of Astaro up and running and have been tweaking various settings. Today I ran a speed test behind Astaro and was surprised at how drastic the speed of my internet connection was reduced. Prior to installing, when running a speed test at speakeasy.net/speedtest, I was getting speeds over 11Mbit / sec. Earlier today when I tested it, the best speed I could get was 4.8Mbit / sec.

I am running Astaro from a Virtual Machine (VMWare ESXi); however, it has over 50% free ram and when running the speed test was only using 2-3% cpu.

Is this typical for Astaro? Or did I do something wrong while installing / configuring?

Web filtering OFF and you get 100% of your speed back. Web filter ON and your clipped about 25% of your real bandwidth.

I'll echo William's suggestion to turn off the dual-scan.  In the Astaros I looked at last year, ClamAV hadn't stopped anything in over a year because Avira was catching it all.

In my experience, there isn't that much of a bandwidth loss, so I wonder if you have DNS configured correctly.  I just tested with speedtest.net from here (home) and got 1.72/0.37Mbps with the proxy and 1.87/0.41Mbps with it disabled.

Also, if you're basing that ping measurement on one of the on-line bandwidth tests, you probably are working from false data.  Speedtest.net reports similar results, but that's because it tests sequentially using small-message transfers through Web Filtering.
