11 Mbit connect drops to 5mbit behind Astaro

So I've been getting an install of Astaro up and running and have been tweaking various settings. Today I ran a speed test behind Astaro and was surprised at how drastic the speed of my internet connection was reduced. Prior to installing, when running a speed test at speakeasy.net/speedtest, I was getting speeds over 11Mbit / sec. Earlier today when I tested it, the best speed I could get was 4.8Mbit / sec.

I am running Astaro from a Virtual Machine (VMWare ESXi); however, it has over 50% free ram and when running the speed test was only using 2-3% cpu. 

Is this typical for Astaro? Or did I do something wrong while installing / configuring?

    I think you have DNS right.  You're right that 5 & 6 don't apply.

    However, in DHCP, 'DNS Server 1' should be the private IP of "Internal (Address)" and the second DNS server should be blank or one of the OpenDNS servers.  If those both were left blank, then that would indeed cause very slow DNS resolution when using Web Security in Transparent mode.

    Anti-Virus doesn't have that impact on throughput.  You asked a different question before, so I gave you a method to test download speed.  In fact, with the much-smaller messages that make up 99% of your web browsing, AV occurs simultaneously with downloading, so, unless you have the problem that William addresses, it has virtually no impact on throughput.

    Sorry for being slow, but I'm not certain where in the Astaro you're talking about. Are you referring to Network Services > DNS > Forwarders? If so, that does not allow me to select Internal (Address) . . .

    Originally I thought the problem was merely Astaro, but after I originally posted, I turned off Antivirus and my download speeds increased as I documented above. In your previous post though you said: 
     Try downloading a file that's big enough to trigger the Astaro please wait screen, but smaller than the maximum scan size, and then time the download and then the virus-scan time.

    Isn't that referring to testing the download speed with and without Antivirus enabled which is what I did? If not, could you explain further? Guess I'm not as familiar with Astaro as I thought to be able to understand your instructions [:(]
