Hardware upgrade - Configuration backup

I’m about to completely change the hardware (motherboard, CPU, NIC… everything) of my ASG 8.3 Home Edition. Awesome product by the way!

I searched the forum but could not find an answer to the following. If I create a backup of the configuration (network definitions, firewall rules etc…) will it be compatible with the new hardware? If not, is there a way to keep some of the configuration setting?

    Backups are not hardware specific, with the following exceptions:

    1)  If you are using moving from a Software installation to an "official" Sophos/Astaro Appliance (or vice-versa) after restoring a backup (as part of the migration) you will be prompted to install a proper license for the type of platform you are on.

    2)  You must have at least as many network interfaces on the destination hardware as on the source hardware, at least up to the "highest" used interface.  For example, let's say I have a home-built PC with 3 NICs in it, and I've used eth0 and eth1 -- eth2 went unused.  As long as the destination hardware has at least 2 nics in it, the migration will be fine.  Another example:  let's say I have an Astaro appliance that has eth0, eth1, and eth5 in use (eth2-4 and eth6 are unused)... I must have at least 6 nics on the destination hardware, or else I will lose the configuration eth5 after the restore.
