Where in your network have you connected your Astaro-box?

I'm sitting on a SuperMicro SuperServer 5015A-H server and I'm considdering turning it into an Astaro-server, but where in your network do you have your Astaro-box?

Is it:

Internet -> Modem -> Astaro -> network

or:

Internet -> Astaro -> netwoek

    Depends on your internet type... 

    If you have a modem and it uses a normal BT cable then you will need to go 

    Internet -> Modem (firewall turned off) -> Astaro -> network

    If you have a router rather than a modem / it uses a RJ45 (standard network) cable then you go 

    Internet -> Astaro -> network

    Hi zicoz,

    Welcome.

    Normally the Astaro sits behind your Internet Service Provider's equipment and in front of your internal network. In your diagrams that'd be the first one.

    That's also a decent little machine you have. I've been running a similar setup at home for a few years and we just recently installed the 5015A-EHF-D525 in a branch office. Your unit is pretty much equivalent to recent ASG120 hardware so it'll do you just fine for smaller offices / home use.[:)]

    Thanks for the response, I'm currently on an ADSL (PPPoE) connection with a Speedtouch 546 modem, do I need to set it up with PPPoE username and password, or should it simply be a DHCP-client on the NIC that's connected to the modem and then DHCP-server on the network side?

    Hi, use a PPPoE connection on Astaro (and the DHCP server internally).
