Sorry for asking a noobie type question, but I've done my best to research this and got stuck. Basically, I've the VMWare ESXI OVF Astaro Template.
The Problem:
I can get Astaro to see the Internal interface and issue IP addresses via DCHP. However, I cannot get Astaro to get an IP address from my AT&T Uverse modem.
Modem Settings:
IP: 192.168.0.250 - DHCP Range: 192.168.0.200-240 (AT&T Uverse modem doesn’t allow me to disable DHCP)
VMWare Config:
--VMNIC0 – Management Network
--VMNIC1 – Router - External Port Group
--VMNIC2 – Internal - LAN Port Group
-- DMZ – No Physical Network Adapter present (Is this possible? Or do I need to buy another NIC?)
Virtual Machine Config:
--Network Adapter 1: Internal – LAN (VMNIC2)
--Network Adapter 2: Router – External (VMNIC1)
--Network Adapter 3: DMZ (No Physical Adapter)
--Network Adapter 4: Internal – LAN (VMNIC2)
Steps I’ve Taken:
1. Powered on the virtual machine and ran the Wizard using the following settings:
--Internal: 192.168.1.254 -- Enabled DHCP
--Clicked all checkboxes to allow all possible network traffic through the filewall
--Did not enable any Intrusion Prevention so as to not add any additional complexity
2. Added a second interface selecting Cable Modem – DCHP using Eth1(which I presume equals Network Adapter 2 in my virtual machine settings). I also selected the checkbox for this to be my default gateway.
3. Added Eth2 and Eth 3.
Results:
1. Eth0 which was added during the install works fine – I am able to assign IP address using DHCP on 192.168.1.X
2. Eth3 also works – it too picks up 192.168.1.X
3. Eth 1 and Eth2 are unable to pick up any IP address. They both report being down. Disabling and re-enabling as well as renewing the IP address don’t help either.
Both VMNIC1 (Eth1) and VMNIC2 (Eth0 and Eth3) utilize the exact same network cards (Dynex DX-PCIGB but report themselves as Realtek). So since they are using the same chipset, it can’t be an incompatibility of one of the cards. Does anyone have any help for me?
Thanks in advance,
Jonathan
