Hardware Upgrade from ASG320

My License is valid until the end of 2014. I need to upgrade my hardware because the ASG320 that I currently have does not have the needed RAM to keep up with the latest released firmware. I am currently using 8.203 and usage stats are 41% RAM (2BG) and 22% Swap (1GB) at off peak times. At peak times I have notice a considerable slow down and the RAM usage goes to 80%+ and Swap over 50%. CPU actually has no problems though. When I updates to the 8.203 firmware I had to disable IPS altogether to avoid the ASG320 grinding to a halt. 

We use the Web Filtering, Firewall, IPS, Email Security, and VPN.

I am looking at either a newer ASG320 or an ASG425. I cannot find any specification on RAM for either of these. Does anyone know the specifications on the newer hardware revisions? Should I just stick with the 320 or make the jump to the 425?

    If I'm reading this right, you already have 2GB... iirc the new 320's don't have more.

    Your reseller may be able to give you a trade-in discount.

    What is using most of the RAM?

    My reseller quoted me MSRP price for hardware only and tried to sell me a 5 year license extension.

    Looks like the majority of the RAM is the httpdproxy, followed by /usr/bin/cssd -d, and then clamd.

    the latest ASG 320 (white, Sophos Branded) has 4GB of Memory. Sales will frequently offer the 5 year license, as for this you essentially get 2 years for free then. [:)]

    Just a little question: I just bought an additional 320 to use HA together with my old brown 320 (2GB). I got a new white one (didn't check hardware yet) - but will that be possible? If not - did the resellers know about the new hardware specs?

    HA (active/passive) will work with two ASG's with two different amounts of ram (well does here) set the one with more RAM as the master to get the best performance.

    jraley, try cutting back to single-scan anti-virus; remember that you also have to do that in each individual Profile.  Since you have Mail Security, you'll want to do that there, too.  That should make the clamd usage disappear.  I've never seen anything caught by clamd since Astaro switched to Avira for the first scan.

    In IPS had you already tried going through and unchecking everything you don't have internally?

    That would be great if that combination would work. Just i case of a failure of the bigger machine we could get some performance trouble if we max out the bigger machine - i will have to keep an eye on that. Thanks for the OT reply.

    Mixing different ASG hardware revisions in HA works at many of my customers. 
    But you should NOT mix 32-bit and 64-bit kernel in HA or cluster.

    The new hardware with more ram is rev.5 (sophos utm in white). With a valid license until 2014 you should try the new hardware. If it's powerfull enough, you save a lot of money. 

    Ask your friendly astaro dealer for a new hardware to test.

    Yes. I am using the proxy cache.
