How to recognize new NIC on ESXi?

We have ASG 8.3 running as a VM on ESXi 4.1.  We had it running with 3 NICs just fine.  But I want to add a 4th NIC for another subnet.  So I shutdown the VM and added another virtual NIC.  All NICs are set to "flexible".  Upon rebooting, the ASG does not seem to recognize that that is another NIC.  Is there something else I need to do or is this some kind of bug or limitation?

Any advice here would be great - thanks in advance!

    Hi, Jeremy,

    If you read a bit here, folks with Astaro installed in ESXi recommend using the e1000 NICs.

    Normally, the Astaro installation routine only loads the drivers for the devices it sees then, so adding a new device of a different type never works.  In this case, adding identical NICs should have worked.

    If you have paid support for this instance, you might want to get Astaro Support to take a look at it before you re-install.

    Just download the asg backup file, install a new instance adding the 4th nice, and restore the backup.

    I can confirm that using the E1000 NICs in ESXi v5.0 does allow you to add additional NICs without a re-install.  I just tried it out on mine and it worked.

    FWIW, I installed ASG using the iso.  For my setup, I am not using the pre-packaged ASG virtual appliance image as I think it uses "Flexible" or one of the "VMXNET" NICs.

    1. Log into ASG and shut it down.
    2. Open up vSphere Client and edit the ASG VM once it is completely shut down.
    3. Add a new E1000 NIC to the ASG VM.
    4. Power on the ASG and the new NIC should show up as available under the eth drop-down menu when assigning new NICs inside ASG.
