External Facing NIC won't grab IP from Comcast Modem

if you were running with a different nic before hand then you have to power down the cable modem..wait a minute..then power it back up.  All us cmodems bond to the mac of the nic when they come up.  if you are running dynamic macs on the virtual nics everything you bring up the vm you'll have to power cycle.  Assign a static mac to the wan vnic so you wan't have to power cycle every time.

I can say this is a confirmed bug in terms of my usage.  I just had my hyper-v instance of astaro bomb and now no matter what no install of astaro will grab an ip form comcast.  if i use just the physical nic for just windows it works fine.  I think there are a few regressions in the networking code as i have found other errors as well.  I have a loooooong ticket open with support on this one.  right now i have to reccomend you go with a physical install.

This sounds like Hyper-V is setting a random MAC address on boot of the virtual machine. Comcast enforces a IP address limit by keeping a MAC address table on the cable modem, which will only clear on restart of the modem or after a certain number of hours.

I would suggest that you find out if there is a setting to enable the Hyper-V to keep a static MAC address, or if the MAC address is indeed changing.

i know..i used to install them..however i have a mac statically set..[:)]  it was working until the installation became unstable.  I've had it bomb twice now.  Thing is i've had a physical installation bomb in the same fashion as well..i think there are some serious regressions in 8.2x-3x.  I then reformatted the host and reinstalled everything from scratch..and did NOT restore any backups.  now the astaro vm won't grab an ip at all.  i now know it is not my box/myper-v/ etc etc etc.  i've restored my host back to it's previous state with all its other vm's running.  no other vm's including my ACC are having this stability issue..but no external ip means my network has not internet.  if i cna't get this resolved tonight i'll revert to a physical install for a while.

Any updates to this? I just built a Micro-itx home Astaro and it cannot pull an IP from my Comcast modem (Surfboard). I read somewhere that it might be a issue with the GB NIC drivers in the latest version of Astaro. Might have to downgrade and see but any updates on your progress is appreciated.

Mine was a virtual machine issue.....for yours unplug all cables from the cable modem and let it sit for at least two minutes.....then reattach everything and give it time to stabilize...this will reset the cmts mac lock that cmodem providers do.

On a further note. 902 fixed my particular issues
