Advice for virtualization

Hello,
I'd like to make some tests in a virtual environment. Can anyone give me an adivice for the VM? It seems that most of people use esxi (I read that it is a supported platform). Other used (free) solutions?

I agree about esxi. I use it and it is very nice.

As far as I know VMware still offers a ESXi license for free, just register and get a license key. That's how I came in for testing the ESXi stuff.
The OS can be installed on a USB stick, the how-to is oftenly described on the web. I run the OS of my three ESXi-Hosts on USB-stick and have all the raid space for the guests. Works pretty well and is a good way for testing, too.
